Central Connecticut State University has room-dimension data for 10 residence halls. Published room sizes range from about 112 to 188 sq ft, with a median of 150 sq ft. Find exact width × length and square footage for each hall below, then preview your layout in the visualizer.
Bed size: Twin XL. Central Connecticut answers the question directly — its housing FAQ asks how long the mattresses are and replies that all rooms are provided with extra long twin size mattresses. Hall pages carry a Mattress Size field reading Extra Long Twin. No width is published anywhere; the inch figures in CCSU’s housing table are windows and rooms.

What Central Connecticut housing actually costs
Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- Bed risers are banned outright. So are loft units, outside loft kits, bed tents, bed canopies, non-university mattresses and mattress toppers thicker than three inches. Half the "dorm essentials" bundles sold online include risers. Do not buy them for CCSU.
- Ring cameras are banned by brand name — and the ban covers cameras inside or outside your room. 3D printers are banned too, which almost never appears on a university list.
- Humidifiers and vaporizers are banned, which directly contradicts the dry-winter advice most schools give. Floor lamps are banned as well — desktop lamps only.
- LED strips are permitted, but only mounted with Command-strip hooks. CCSU spells it out: adhesive tapes including double-sided tape are not allowed. So buy the hooks, not the peel-and-stick backing you get in the box.
- The fridge cap is 3.2 cubic feet AND 2 amps. The amp limit is the tighter of the two and plenty of compliant-size fridges fail it. Watch out for the third-party vendor selling CCSU-branded rentals — its 5.0 cu ft unit drawing up to 10 amps is well outside CCSU’s own published limits, and CCSU does not endorse it.
- Extension cords and multi-outlet adapters are banned; only surge protectors are permitted. Add air fryers, toasters of any kind, coffee makers, hot plates and wax warmers to the banned list and a 700-watt microwave is essentially the only cooking device allowed in a room.
- Cancel housing on or after 1 July and you owe 100% of the year’s room charges — roughly $7,674 to $10,813 for a room you never occupy. It is the harshest number in CCSU’s documents and it is buried in a contract PDF, not on any rates or FAQ page.
- Three of ten halls do not say whether they have air conditioning — including Mid-Campus, the most expensive housing on campus, and Seth North, the all-freshman learning community. A first-year assigned to Seth North cannot find out from CCSU’s website whether to buy a fan. CCSU does recommend a specific fan model by name on its move-in page, which tells you something.
Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — risers, floor lamps, humidifiers and extension cords are all on the standard list and all banned.

Fridge & microwave rules
Nothing is supplied in the bedroom — shared kitchens and kitchenettes exist in Sheridan, Gallaudet, Vance, Mid-Campus, Beecher, Sam May and Seth North, and Barrows, Carroll and James do not say. For your own, the limits are hard: a refrigerator no larger than 3.2 cubic feet, Energy Star rated, UL approved, and drawing no more than two amps, one per room. A microwave not exceeding 700 watts. A combination MicroFridge must use one-plug technology. The suite allowance contradicts itself — the restricted-items page says one fridge per suite while the move-in page says one per bedroom plus one in the common area. For a six-person James suite that is the difference between one fridge and four, so ask before you buy.
What you cannot bring
Bed risers, loft units, bed tents, bed canopies, privacy curtains. Air conditioners and ceiling fans. Floor lamps — desktop only. Humidifiers and vaporizers. Surveillance cameras inside or outside the room, Ring named specifically. 3D printers. Air fryers, toasters of any kind, coffee makers, hot plates, hot pots, heating elements, portable heaters and "electric appliances" as a blanket category. Extension cords and multi-outlet adapters — surge protectors with a built-in breaker only. Candles and oil or wax tart warmers. Foldable tables (folding chairs are fine), wicker furniture and wicker wastebaskets, cardboard drawer units, upholstered furniture, futons, bean bags and pillows longer than four feet. Fitness equipment, though weights up to 10 lb are allowed. Upright and canister vacuums — handheld only. TVs over 40 inches. Amplifiers, subwoofers, halogen fixtures, lava lamps, duct tape, dartboards with pointed tips, hoverboards and e-scooters. Posters may not cover more than 50% of your wall.
Who has to live on campus
Nobody. CCSU states it in five words: "On-campus housing is neither required nor guaranteed." There is no live-on requirement, so there is no exemption list and no exemption deadline. Its housing policy goes further and designates campus housing a secondary residence — "all students must list a primary residence other than CCSU." What does have rules is eligibility: you must be matriculated, registered, immunised and in good financial standing, and there is a cap of ten fall/spring semesters for undergraduates. Deposits and applications are due 1 March for continuing students and 1 May for new ones. The financial risk is all on the cancellation side — forfeit the $250 deposit between 1 March and 30 June, or owe 100% of the year’s room charges from 1 July onward.
Rates and rules from the CCSU restricted items list, the 2026–2027 rate sheet and the annual housing contract, compiled August 2026. Two cautions: the undergraduate tuition page still displays 2024–25 figures while the rate sheet is dated January 2026, and the PDF rate sheet and the web rates page do not list the same five tiers. CCSU also publishes room and window dimensions hall by hall, which is genuinely useful for rugs — while publishing no mattress dimension at all. Residence Life is at (860) 832-1660.
