Bed size: Twin XL. Marshall lists a mattress, twin XL, in the furnishings for every hall, and its packing list says Twin XL sheets. No mattress measurement is published — Marshall gives dimensions for desks, dressers, windows and closets, but not for the bed.

What Marshall housing actually costs
Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- Marshall publishes no mattress dimensions anywhere — while publishing the desk (42-1/4" x 22-1/8" x 30-1/4"), the dresser, the closet, the window and even the bathroom to the inch. It says "Twin XL" on every hall page and never once gives a number. Anyone quoting "38 x 80" for Marshall is not getting that from Marshall.
- The refrigerator limit is 2.5 amps, not cubic feet. Mini-fridges are sold by cubic feet and amperage is often not on the box. A 2.5-amp ceiling generally rules out larger 4.0+ cu ft units, but Marshall never says so.
- Marshall Commons suites share ONE microwave between four to eight residents, and it must plug into a single dedicated outlet: "microwaves cannot be plugged into any other outlet in the entire suite." Coordinate with your suitemates before anyone buys one.
- All amplified audio is banned in rooms — "electrically amplified items, including musical instruments, microphones, surround sound" — which arguably prohibits a soundbar.
- Instant Pots, electric skillets, plain toasters and Nu Wave ovens are banned by name. Most schools permit a sealed Instant Pot.
- Extension cords and multi-outlet plugs are banned with no surge-protector exception, and microwaves must plug directly into the wall — so you cannot solve the outlet shortage with a power strip.
- Alcohol is banned regardless of age, and furniture with built-in outlets or USB ports is prohibited unless UL listed with a resettable breaker — which rules out most outlet-equipped headboards and nightstands.
- First-year halls cost the most and offer the least choice. A First Year double is $4,130 a semester against $3,249 for a double in Twin Towers or Buskirk, and freshmen — the cohort required to live on campus — have no cheaper room type published at all.
Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check the amperage on your fridge, and do not buy a power strip for the microwave.

Fridge & microwave rules
Nothing is supplied in any hall — the published room furnishings are a bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet, with communal kitchens on the floors. You bring your own, and the limits are unusual: refrigerators are capped by amperage at 2.5 amps, not by cubic feet, and microwaves at 700 watts, with a total room load of 20 amps. Since mini-fridges are sold by cubic feet and amperage is often not on the box, check the plate before buying. In Marshall Commons the whole suite shares one microwave, which must plug into a single dedicated outlet and nowhere else. Microwaves must go directly into the wall, never a surge protector.
What you cannot bring
Hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, Instant Pots, electric skillets, Nu Wave ovens, Foreman grills and any open-element appliance; candles, incense and open flames; oil and halogen lamps; extension cords and multi-outlet plugs; space heaters and air conditioners; darts and dartboards; unauthorised weapons; alcohol regardless of age; e-cigarettes and vapes; hoverboards; and all electrically amplified items including microphones and surround sound. Furniture with built-in plugs — lamps, headboards, side tables — is banned unless UL listed with a resettable breaker. Pets are fish only, in tanks under 10 gallons.
Who has to live on campus
Two years. All freshman and sophomore single students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours must live in the residence halls and hold a meal plan, until they reach junior standing at 60 credit hours. Four exemptions are published: commuting from a parent or legal guardian's home within 50 miles (an apartment does not qualify), financial release for extreme circumstances, medical release where the university cannot accommodate, and reaching 60 hours. Deadlines are July 31 for fall and November 15 for spring. Marshall warns that "signing an off-campus lease does not exempt a student from the two-year residency requirement," and treats violation as a conduct matter — but it never publishes a dollar penalty, which is the number you most need before signing anything.
